Following are descriptions of the film festivals I have attended. All recommendations are based on my own experiences, but all may not be recent. Check under the heading “The Festival Year by Year” on each page to find out the year(s) I attended a given festival. In general, you can assume that I’ve updated my recommendations for a fest after every visit there.

Because I hate to drive in strange places, I make a point of focusing on festivals in which one can get around without a car, preferably by walking. Where appropriate, I have included tips on public transportation options.
